The composition Go Between is part of the album The New Unusual. This is a series of 11 short solo works commissioned in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and recorded in the homes of Distractfold performers between December 2020 – January 2021.
The performer of Go Between will be principally a cellist with vocal skills. An imaginative and improvisational approach should be taken. The indicated pitches are meant to be fluctuating between a quarter tone. The piece is inspired by Bernie Krauses book, The Great Animal Orchestra, in which he describes how acoustic habitats are constituted. Each living organism finds its own frequency range, one which is not occupied by the overall sound spectrum, so that the organism´s vocal signals are clearly audible and so may separate or synchronise rhythmically or in pitch, comparable for example to an ensemble of improvising musicinas or a many layered music composition.
go between is written for Alice Purton.
